- After almost 20 years of thoughtful fine dining, Pangaea has closed at 1221 Bay St.
“Peter (Geary, my co-owner) and I had weathered many financial storms — recession, SARS, two years of construction in front of the restaurant — which drained the war chest, ” said chef/co-owner Martin Kouprie of the seemingly sudden decision to close last weekend.
“Closing is expensive — pay all wages including vacation and tips, taxes, etc. — and we had the money to look after that now, which may not have held true if we continued.”
Openings
- Oliver & Bonacini have opened Beaumont Kitchen inside Saks Fifth Avenue at Sherway Gardens mall, 25 The West Mall, with all-day dining on West Coast cuisine such as Thai root vegetable salad ($12) and beef brisket ($28).
