Breakfast spots in Stockholm

Breakfast Cafes

Whether you're craving a civilized traditional Japanese breakfast, an egg-stuffed burrito, bagels and lox, or outrageously good pumpkin pancakes, here are 25 places to start your day off right.

Note: Restaurants are listed based on geography, starting with lower Manhattan.

1 Little Park

Like sister restaurant Lafayette, Little Park in Tribeca serves a fine morning meal. Expect a relaxed vibe in the sunny space as you sit with your coconut and spelt pancakes topped with blueberry compote and vanilla butter. Lighter options like the yogurt with granola, and oatmeal with stewed figs, honey, and almonds are also hits.

85 W Broadway
New York, NY 10007

(212) 220-4110

2 Bubby's

For the last 25 years, Bubby’s has been serving brunch every single day to the people of Tribeca. Classic morning options like eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros, and a smoked salmon bagel are served every day until 4:00 p.m. For something sweeter, consider the buttermilk biscuits with Vermont butter and homemade jam.

120 Hudson St
New York, NY 10013

(212) 219-0666

3 Dudley's

Aussie cafe Dudley’s serves an all-day breakfast menu starting at 9:00 a.m. daily. Options include pancakes with hazelnuts and bananas; avocado toast; and a “big breakie” with eggs, bacon, mushrooms, beans, potatoes, and toast. While the weekends can attract a crowd at Dudley’s, the morning hours during the week are relatively laid-back.

85 Orchard St
New York, NY 10002

(212) 925-7355

4 Shopsin's General Store

Kenny Shopsin's Essex Street Market restaurant is often super busy during brunch on the weekends, but breakfast Wednesday through Friday rarely comes with a wait (Shopsin's is closed on Monday and Tuesday). The massive menu can be overwhelming to newcomers, but start with the “blisters on my sister” category (essentially a skillet of rice and beans or chickpea stew or really anything else, topped with two sunny-side up eggs), or the pumpkin pancakes.

120 Essex St
New York, NY 10002

(212) 924-5160

5 Jack's Wife Freda

The breakfast menu at this lively all-day bistro includes many simple dishes that are Middle Eastern-inspired. Morning options here include steak and eggs; green shakshuka with challah toast; and a rosewater waffle topped with Lebanese yogurt, mixed berries, and honey syrup. You'll also find a highly Instagrammed breakfast bowl with eggs, red quinoa, kale, spaghetti squash, grilled tomato, and avocado. Both locations of Jack’s Wife Freda open daily at 8:30 a.m.

224 Lafayette St
New York, NY 10012

(212) 510-8550

6 Sadelle's

If you rather avoid the borderline nonsensical brunch waits here, settle into a white marble table during the week at this bustling Soho restaurant. Next to you will be a local reading the morning paper, or a group of tourists hovering over a map. Menu standouts include the classic egg sandwich (two fried eggs with bacon and muenster on homemade challah); salami and eggs; a caramelized onion omelette coated in house-cured salmon known as the Leo; and impressive French toast made with two very thick slices of challah. Note: Sadelle’s is closed on Mondays.

463 W Broadway
New York, NY 10012

(212) 254-3000

7 Mile End Delicatessen

Breakfast is served at the Noho location of Mile End starting at 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. Options from the popular deli include a smoked brisket hash with eggs and potatoes; the Mont Royal, which is potato latkes with smoked salmon, sour cream, and tobiko caviar; and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Mile End also serves bagels from sister establishment Black Seed.

53 Bond St
New York, NY 10012

(212) 529-2990

8 Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria

For breakfast, this excellent Noho restaurant serves a breakfast sandwich with a fried egg, fontina, and salame rosa; baked eggs with toast and sage; and Tuscan kale with eggs and parmigiano reggiano. Healthier options here include chia pudding with almond milk, agave, and seasonal fruit; yogurt with fresh fruit, granola, and honey; and a hot cereal blend with fruit and maple syrup. House-made pastries like the almond croissant, olive oil cake, and pain aux raisin are also available.
