About the proprietors and their cooking...
Inspired by their mother’s and grandmothers’ love of cooking and community, friends Chie Addington and Katsuko Lord have teamed up to offer a healthy family style Japanese cooking.
Chie grew up in Hiroshima, Japan and lived in London, Canada, and Tokyo before moving to Dorset in 2011 with her husband and three children. Chie works as a freelance English-Japanese translator. Beyond her interests in cooking, she enjoys playing music such as Koto (Japanese stringed instrument) and also enjoys other Japanese traditional arts such as Tea ceremony and Kimono.
Katsuko grew up in Saitama, Japan and lived in Hong Kong for 10 years before moving to Manchester in 2011 with her husband and three children. Katsuko is a certified Ikebana Instructor; her arrangements can often be seen at The Southern Vermont Art Center and she is a regular contributor of floral arrangements for the Manchester Music Festival. In addition, she gives Ikebana floral workshops throughout the Vermont and New York state regions. She also studies Japanese calligraphy. Katsuko’s cooking style reflects her sense of art in that each presentation needs to stand on its own but at the same time blend into the overall flow of the meal.
